Mini Hot Dogs made with Puff Pastry are bite-sized delights perfect for parties, game day snacks, or even a fun family treat. With their golden, flaky crust, dips, and dill pickles filling, they’re guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser.

These Mini Hot Dogs are the ideal finger food for a kid’s party! They’re quick and easy to make, requiring only mini Frankfurt sausages (cocktail sausages), pre-made puff pastry dough, and dill pickles. Serve these fun bites with small bowls of ketchup and yellow mustard for dipping—they’re always a crowd’s favourites. For extra flair, consider adding side toppings like bits of fried onions, bacon, coleslaw, cheese or relish so that your guests can customize their own.

Easy, Breezy Appetizer

Mini Hot Dog appetizers

It’s always tricky to make something all kids like, easy to grasp and won’t make a mess. These Mini Hot Dogs are a great choice and a true crowd-pleaser. The puff pastry adds an extra nice flaky touch nobody can resist! I like to make two styles of hot dogs, one without anything and the other with mini dill pickle sticks. This is up to you. You can make them ahead of time, no more than a day, and they will keep their crunch.

Fun Facts about Hot Dogs

Here are a few fun facts about this beloved dish:

  • Hot Dog is not considered a sandwich because of the tubular form of the sausage.
  • Hot Dogs were one of the first dishes eaten in space, however, in pouch form. They’re still a favourite up there today.
  • Its National Day is July 21st in the USA.
  • These fun bites are also called Pigs In A Blanket or Crescent Dogs.
  • You shouldn’t poke holes into the sausage while it cooks; use tongs to prevent the interior from drying out.

Variations

If you do half with pickles and the other half without, add some sesame or chia seeds on top of one type to differentiate them more easily. If you prefer a more compact and less flaky crust, you can always switch the puff pastry for pre-made brisé (pie) dough. Also, if you cannot find cocktail sausages, use a regular-sized one and cut it into small pieces.

To Serve

Remember to leave a few toothpicks and napkins next to the appetizers for those who don’t like to eat finger food with their hands.

These mini hot dogs are a great appetizer. They're made in no time with cocktail sausages enveloped in puff pastry dough and, if desired, extra dill pickles; it couldn't be easier or yummier. Serve them with mustard and ketchup because everyone has a preferred dip.
