This sweet pea purée pasta is a delicious meal for the whole family, including babies! With simple tweaks, like crispy bacon bits and extra parmesan, it can also become a flavorful dish for grown-ups. It’s quick, easy, and healthy for all ages!

A Baby and Toddler Favourite

This recipe comes from my Austrian friend, Nadine, who is married to an Italian guy. Each time we would go to a picnic with our babies, she would bring a thermos with this green pea pasta for her little one. I remember thinking that it was such an easy and yummy idea! She would make it with this fun star-shaped pasta for soups; it was perfect. Once a toddler, you can switch to fusilli, farfalle, penne or a larger pasta type.

*Special thanks to Nadine for sharing her recipe with me!

Balancing Sweet Peas

Babies love these sweet peas, plus they are super healthy. Although a mouthful of green peas for a grown-up can be lovely, the bacon bits and shaved parmesan will help balance this whole dish. You could also replace it with lightly cooked cured ham. Plus, parmesan always brings in this natural umami taste we all dig, baby included!

Is Parseman Lactose-Free?

When babies are under one year old, it is generally recommended to limit lactose intake as it may be difficult to digest. However, parmesan cheese is nearly lactose-free. During aging, the lactose in mature cheeses converts into lactic acid, making it more digestible. In small quantities, parmesan can be suitable for babies. Additionally, this recipe keeps the cheese amount minimal to maintain a low sodium content.

Variations

This recipe is conceived for the little ones, but if you want to make it more interesting for grown-ups, you can always add a touch of cream to the peas instead of water.
