Brazilian Lemonade (Limonada Suiça) – Creamy, Viral & Ready in 5 Minutes

The creamy blended drink that broke TikTok: whole limes, condensed milk, coconut water, and ice, ready in 5 minutes.

If you’ve seen this drink all over TikTok and Pinterest and wondered what the fuss is about, this is it. Brazilian Lemonade (or Limonada Suiça as they call it in Brazil) is blended with whole limes, sweetened condensed milk, and ice into the creamiest, tangiest, most refreshing drink of summer. My version adds a splash of coconut water for a tropical twist that takes it to the next level.

Why Do Brazilians Call It Swiss Lemonade?

You might be wondering why Brazilians call it Swiss Lemonade. It sounds like a geographical mix-up, but the story is actually pretty charming. The creamy secret ingredient, sweetened condensed milk, was traditionally made by Nestlé, a Swiss brand whose iconic label features a Swiss milkmaid. So somewhere along the way, Brazilians started calling their beloved blended limeade Limonada Suiça, or Swiss Lemonade, as a nod to that little Swiss lady on the can. And then, just to keep things interesting, the rest of the world started calling it Brazilian Lemonade. So yes, it’s a Brazilian drink, named after Switzerland, made with limes, and called lemonade. Welcome to the most delightfully confusing drink of summer.”

What is Condensed Milk?

Condensed milk comes in a can and is cow’s milk with about 60% of the water removed. Unlike unsweetened evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk is rich, thick, and perfect for pairing with something tangy, like limes! It balances the acidity beautifully and adds that smooth, fluffy texture that makes Brazilian limeade so irresistible.

With or Without the Peel?

Some TikTok recipes use whole limes, peel and all, while others remove the skin. I chose to peel mine since they weren’t organic, and citrus peels can retain pesticides. But if you find beautiful organic limes and don’t mind a hint of bitterness, feel free to keep the peel on. The method is simple: blend the limes with coconut water, strain through a fine mesh sieve, then return the juice to the blender with condensed milk and ice cubes. That’s it! There is no need to peel every lime meticulously; pick the best method.

Pulp or no Pulp

In the video, I blend everything, making a lemonade with some pulp. If you prefer it without pulp, use the above technique, blending the peeled limes and coconut water first. Then, strain it and mix it with the added ice and condensed milk. This way, it will be pulpless. Both ways are in the recipe card below.

Lime Juice

Some limes are drier than others; I recommend taking limes with less texture on their skin, the smoothest, the juiciest. Also, buy a few more limes to ensure you get enough juice. You can do a quick test with a half lime to see if it has enough juice to fill a small spoon; if it does, it’s good! Otherwise, you’ll need some more limes.

Coconut Water or Water?

Here’s my secret weapon: coconut water instead of plain water. Not only does coconut water add a subtle tropical sweetness, but it is also loaded with natural electrolytes, making it the ultimate summer drink for kids. After a sweaty afternoon running around in the sun, this lemonade doesn’t just quench thirst; it genuinely rehydrates those little bodies. Honestly, it’s the one drink I never feel guilty serving on repeat all summer long.

FAQ

In Brazilian Portuguese, the word limão encompasses both limes and lemons. Consequently, limonada refers to a drink made from either fruit. Although the beverage uses limes, which we would call a “limeade,” the traditional name has stuck due to cultural and linguistic habits.

Despite being a Brazilian creation, it’s called “Swiss Lemonade” (limonada suíça) because it contains sweetened condensed milk, a product historically popularized in Brazil by Swiss companies like Nestlé. The name gives a nod to this creamy twist rather than the drink’s geographic origin.

Sounds like a good plan!

Yes, it would make an unsweetened version, but you might need to balance out the acidity with agave, honey, or maple syrup.

I’ve used five big cubes, but it’s up to you.

For Papa and Mama, you can add a touch of rum or Cachaça to make it an adult version. Cachaça is a sugar cane-distilled alcohol from Brazil.

Equipment

  • Blender

Ingredients

  • 5 limes peeled
  • 300 g sweetened condensed milk
  • 100 g coconut water or water
  • 8 ice cubes
  • pinch of salt

Instructions

Without Pulp

  • Toss the peeled lime quarters into the blender, pour in the coconut water, and blend on high for 30 to 40 seconds. Stop there, over-blending is the enemy of a good Limonada!
  • Pass through a fine mesh strainer and collect only the juice.
  • Add the lime juice, ice cubes, salt, and condensed milk to the blender once more and mix until smooth.

With Pulp

  • Start by cutting the peel off your limes. Don't worry about being too precise — you just want to get rid of that bitter green skin before blending.
  • Add the condensed milk, coconut water, and ice to the strained lime juice and blend again until silky smooth.

Notes

  • Strain to your liking. Use a fine mesh strainer for a completely smooth drink, or partially strain if you like a little pulp in there, just press lightly and leave some of that texture behind. Both versions are delicious.
  • Make it a cocktail. A splash of cachaça, rum, or even coconut rum takes this straight into adult territory. Perfect for a summer garden party while the kids have their version.
  • Serve immediately. This drink does not like to wait; the texture is best fresh out of the blender. If you must make it ahead, keep it in the fridge without ice and give it a quick blend before serving.
  • Adjust the sweetness. Condensed milk brands vary, so taste before you pour. If you want it less sweet, start with half a can and go from there.
  • No coconut water? Plain cold water works too, but you’ll be missing that extra tropical kick and the natural electrolyte boost.
