Bananas Foster (aka Banane flambée)

This dessert draws inspiration from the legendary Bananas Foster, but we’ve made it accessible, safer, and alcohol-free. Created by Chef Paul Blangé in 1951 at Brennan’s Restaurant in New Orleans, this theatrical dessert quickly became a sensation throughout the Caribbean islands, where it remains beloved today. The traditional preparation involves flambéing bananas with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon using rum, creating a spectacular flame that caramelizes the fruit to perfection in seconds.
Our Air Fryer adaptation captures all the rich, caramelized flavours of this iconic show-stopping dessert while eliminating the need for open flames or alcohol. You’ll achieve the same tender, golden results with complete kitchen safety and ease. For those curious about the original flambéed version, authentic recipes can be found online to appreciate the dessert’s dramatic heritage.

Variations

Your sugar selection sets the foundation—white sugar delivers clean sweetness, while cane or brown sugar adds deeper molasses notes.

Feel free to customize with warming spices like extra cinnamon, indulgent chocolate chips, or the subtle complexity of coconut sugar mixed directly with the bananas.

Regarding toppings, swap peanuts for crunchy almonds or tropical shredded coconut based on your preference or serve like the original with ice cream!

The possibilities are endless, but remember that the magic happens at the crucial moment when butter and sugar transform into golden caramel—everything else is simply a delicious decoration.

Serve with

I haven’t served mine with anything, but a lovely vanilla ice cream would suit this recipe perfectly. Also, a little cloud of whipped cream would make a fine decoration with these. Little bits of Oreo cookies or any chocolate bar would be fun, too. Let your imagination run free on this one!
